Snooze Button by Linda V

Laying in the crumpled sheets of midnight

Stillness hangs heavy on the air

And makes you want to hold your breath

Time is waiting

For you to close your eyes

So that it can be free to fly

And pull you swiftly to morning

The sleep that eluded you then

Now begs for your return

Frustration overcomes you

As the curtains open on a new day

Ten more minutes

Wouldn’t help

But you desire them more than words

And after another long day

Of information overload

The mind races

As midnight creeps upon you

And sleep escapes once more

Surfacing by Linda V

They would be surprised to know

How comfortable the restraints were

Tightened by the grip of lust

In a moment that seems to degrade but uplifts

The spirit of the broken

They would be unnerved to see

Lingering there in the pain

That ache that begs for more

Hard metal against soft skin

So unseen in that serene smile

They would be aghast to hear

Whimpers of delight in the strike

Sound that hangs in the moment

And lingers on the skin

Leaving a trace of itself behind

They would be shocked to learn

What lies beneath the surface

Of the quiet gentle expression

And sweet exterior

Of the one they thought they knew

Electric Lust by Linda V

Electric touch

Across naïve skin

Play the game

Ignore the sin

Dark vibrant gaze

From haunted eyes

That keep their focus

On their prize

The ache of want

Hangs on the air

Thick and urgent

Strips logic bare

The sweat and heat

Rise like a flame

The passion grows

With lust to blame

Hometown by Linda V

The grass was soft there

Beneath the feet of my youth

In a picture perfect neighborhood

That held secrets as dark as the soil below it

Red clay nightmares

Under bleak grey skies

Time drifted and seemed to stall

Across that urban sprawl

I longed to belong there

Yet those feet itched for a world beyond

Wandering across prairie and field

to the wide open skies

Where time moved as swiftly as clouds and cowboys

and the breezes carried soft and light hope

roots grew there from those once youthful feet

and I belonged in ways I never dreamed real

Awakening the laughter and peace

Far from the grips and reaches

of my Hometown

Still Warrior by Linda V

She had dreamt of a time
When the world would be still
But the Warrior knew
She would long for the thrill
Of battle and tears
Of the path left unknown
How far she had travelled
How often alone
Not long ago
She turned her eyes from the black
But always inside her
She knew what she lacked
In her time on her terms
A new war would be waged
But she wouldn’t be held
Like a creature that’s caged
Instead she would rise
Like a phoenix from ash
Rise above all the mayhem
And find peace at last

Come Hell or High Water by Linda V

Come hell or high water

That’s the motto ‘round here

Looking at the destruction

That caused so much fear

The river raged hard

And this city knew flood

Now there’s a river of hope

Filled with tears, sweat and blood

Destruction was great

But our faith kept us strong

Though the mud it was sticky

And the hours were long

Shoulder to shoulder

Always hands they could lend

Come hell or high water

Once strangers now friends

Angel by Linda V

He still lays in the sunshine

Though by now his spirit flies

Up beyond the rainbow

The farthest reaches of the skies

He still lingers in his armchair

To watch the world go by

Dreams only of his lady

Lays across her when she cries

He still walks beside her

Though his angel wings are real

Bounding down the alley

With all the joy he feels

He still dances with delight

Only now with a puppy’s gait

Forever in the sunshine

For the lady will he wait

Cape Cod by Linda V

Feel wet sand below your feet
Feel the sharp and broken shells
Taste the briny sea water
Hear the wave that breaks and swells

Breathe that sweet notion of summer
Salt water taffy and musk oil
Bodies lined up on the beach
Like fish under the broil

Salty crystals form
On your tongue this phantom sits
Mouth waters in confusion
As the breeze around you lifts

Deep within the memory
Transported to this place
Atlantic sandy beaches
Sunbeams warm across your face

It is a memory of moments
So far back there in the past
Imprinted on your soul
These memories will last

Flirt by Linda V.

Lounging restless in her bed
Thoughts of him run through her head
A dark desire so full of sin
Hidden in her flirty grin
A wild child without a care
She longs to hold him with her stare
Bat an eye and bite a lip
She walks the edge and doesn’t slip
She hides behind the games they play
Loves the danger filled displays
He plays with fire courts her gaze
Lost within her smoky haze
She holds a longing in her kiss
Seeks to drown within the bliss
He knows she’s only words away
And lust is just the game they play

Wet by Linda V.

She is
Liquid over ice
slipping past me
whispering across my arm
she brushes
against me
soft flesh and sweet smile
too easy, too serene
melting my resolve
I am drawn to
stand in the sweat
of desire
blind to the confusion
that surrounds me
overtaken by
her sweet taste
and drowned
in the longing of my desire
