Russell by Linda V

His ancient eyes and wicked grin

Makes others want to gaze within

His demons deep not hidden well

His broken smile a subtle tell

His pain is masked with playful charm

No woman safe – each one disarmed

They want to hold him feel his fire

Burn in the rage of his desire

The walls he built too tall to see

The truth behind his mystery

The empty vessels in his bed

Have empty hearts and empty heads

He wants true love that will sustain

To eclipse the darkness of his pain

Grave by Linda V

Every story reads the same

Between the lines they read her shame

That woman should have left that man

why couldn’t she just make a plan?

If it was me I know I’d leave

–          Hide in secret – make believe

If it was me he wouldn’t dare

–          Her bruises stark on skin so fair

If it was me I’d make him pay

–          Just be sweet – no fights today

Another night so filled with rage

What else is new? Just turn the page

That woman stayed – his battered slave

And now their picking out her grave

Remember Me by Linda V

Remember me please for I was once here

And you held me close to calm all my fear

Remember me please for I knew your smile

When your gaze held me long and I’d stare for a while

Remember me please for I knew your heart

And it took me in, right from the start

I remember you, the first human who cared

And I’ll never let go of those moments we shared

Forget the tears that you cried because I had to go

But remember you loved me, always let it show

While I may not remember my steps over that bridge

I carry on with my journey across this great ridge

I’ll remember your kindness in this happy place

And know you’ll never forget my sweet gentle face

The Ones that got away by Linda V

For all of those we couldn’t save

We held you close and we were brave

For all of those whose time had come

We gave you hope where there was none

For all of those who couldn’t stay

We let you go and then we prayed

For all of you who had to cross

We felt the sadness of your loss

For all of you who now are free

Forever in our hearts you’ll be

Scalpel by Linda V

The poems bleed

Out from my pen

Dripping drama with every word

Like a surgeon’s bloody scalpel blade

Dragging its way

Through the dissection of my dreams

Or nightmares

Scars may heal

But the wounds of these words

Reopens and bleeds

Every time they are read

Just like you by Linda V

Isn’t that just like you

To stand on the bridge you are burning

Isn’t that just like you

To break all the rules you are learning

Isn’t that just like you

To wait for pity to rain from the sky

Isn’t that just like you

Wanting someone to wipe the tears that you cry

What if you weren’t like you

What if you started anew

What if you took a new path

That wouldn’t be just like you

Alaska by Linda V

Damp and worn rubber

Turns against the long stretch of ashphalt

That snakes out before you

The windows are down

And your senses are overwhelmed

By the crisp early morning summer air

Your body longs for the soft warm rumple

Of the blankets you left behind

And the mind races

With anticipation of what lies ahead

And what you leave in the rear view mirror

As the landscape grows wilder

So do you, and so do all your distant dreams

Time by Linda V

It is something that you keep

It is something that you give

It is something that you fill

Every moment that you live

You wish you could do more

But the hours do not last

The piles just get higher

Each day becomes the past

The clock seems to be spinning

Out of control – there is no end

It is something that runs out

With each moment that you spend

You want to get it back

All these minutes you have spent

It is something that you’ll

And never know just where it went

Renegade Angels by Linda V

Renegade Angel

Saving souls is your plight

In sadness find joy

In darkness find light

Renegade Angel

Your wings show their wear

Fight for the freedom

Of the ones in your care

Renegade Angel

You can’t save them all

But Renegade Angel

You can always stand tall

For without all your love

Just imagine the sorrow

You give them peace

And you give them tomorrow

Barren by Linda V

He stood staring into the bleak beyond

Of a cold Alberta winter

And the barren and lonely field that stretched out before him

He felt the pain before he heard the sound

Deep cracking bone and torn ligament

The world went dark

He awoke staring into the deep abyss

Of the shelter he managed to crawl to

Deep damp and murky, just out of reach

Of those savage human hands that chased him there

So many nights before

He limped up and out of that life

Into a strange new world

Where savages were kind, food was abundant

And worry was a thing of his past

For one final moment he smiled and stared into the endless abyss

Where a warm and glowing bridge was just beyond his reach

He took his first steps without limp or pain

And danced merrily up and over across into the great beyond
